Professional racing driver and entrepreneur Peter Hardman has confirmed that he is making plans to hand over the reins of Strakka Racing. Peter is in negotiations to sell Strakka Racing to an undisclosed buyer.

Strakka Racing went the distance in an impressive debut run in the Le Mans 24 Hours last weekend, covering a total of 4430 kilometres from start to finish after Nick Leventis took the chequered flag in 21st place, 14th in LMP1. Co-driven by Peter Hardman and Danny Watts, the team’s Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S had been one of the fastest petrol-powered cars in the race, and battled hard amongst the front-runners for several hours before three minor mechanical problems put them on the back foot. Despite this, they rallied repeatedly, and the team exhibited great professionalism, determination and spirit as they fought to keep the car in with a chance.

Strakka Racing completed a final shakedown test of the team's Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S LMP1 prototype at Snetterton today (Monday 1st June) ahead of departure for France and this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. Team Principal Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis completed the morning test, which went without a hitch. They will be joined in Le Mans by Ginetta-Zytek works driver Danny Watts.

Silverstone-based Strakka Racing has confirmed an agreement with Ginetta-Zytek that will see the team competing in the Le Mans Series this season with a Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S LMP1 chassis. The deal came about following a very successful track test in Spain towards the end of November, and means that Strakka’s regular driver pairing of Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis will be moving up into the top level of sportscar and endurance racing.

Strakka Racing’s driver pairing of Nick Leventis and Peter Hardman were in Spain last week for some early winter testing ahead of finalising plans for next season. Unlucky Thirteen for Strakka

Finishing thirteenth in the Britcar Silverstone 24 Hours just about summed up the fortunes for Strakka Racing’s quartet of Nick Leventis, Peter Hardman, Allan Simonsen and Christian Vann. Despite setting the pace for much of the race, and leading overall for several hours, a succession of drive-train problems for the team’s BMW M3 GTR cost them more than twenty-five laps with pitstops and repairs. Despite the best efforts of all four drivers, luck never swung back their way again.

Strakka Racing’s return to the 2008 Le Mans Series saw the team’s Aston Martin DBR9 complete a very competitive six-hour run to fourth place in the needle-match battle for GT1 honours. Aston Martin works driver Darren Turner joined the team’s regular pairing of Nick Leventis and Peter Hardman for the DBR9’s last race of the year. The two-times Le Mans winner brought his considerable experience of the car to the squad, and rewarded their faith by nearly claiming fastest GT1 lap of the race, missing out by a mere three-tenths of a second.

Just seven-tenths of a second separated the Strakka Racing Aston Martin DBR9 from pole position for the start of tomorrow’s 2008 Le Mans Series finalé at Silverstone. Aston Martin works driver Darren Turner, joining team regulars Nick Leventis and Peter Hardman for the six-hour event, topped the GT1 timing screens for some while before losing out to the title contenders.
